Zimbabwe continue to more than hold their own in the first Test against Pakistan as half-centuries from Pakistan-born Sikandar Raza (60) and Malcolm Waller (70) ensured their visitors did not make more in-roads when they had removed in-batsman Vusi Sibanda (31) and Hamilton Masakadza (19) immediately after lunch. Raza would be thrilled by his effort as his maiden test match 50 came against his birth country on his debut. Earlier on day 2, Pakistan could not add anything to their overnight score and then Zimbabwe batted quicker than Pakistan did in their first innings.
In the end, Zimbabwe see themselves 32 runs ahead of Pakistan’s score but by no means are they in a comfortable position yet. The hosts will hope that Chigumbura does an Ajmal and gets some quick runs on day three morning and take the lead to as close to a 100 as possible. Not much to come for the home side and Pakistan will rely on their bowlers to wrap it up quickly on day 3. They will hope their seamers can utilise the second new ball and limit this lead. The batsmen then need to put up a decent show and get a big total on board. An absorbing day three lies ahead.
