Pakistan won the Twenty20 series in a clean sweep and will be targeting the exact same result in the 50 over format. Zimbabwe’s batting is going to be key if they are going to win a match and the captain Brendan Taylor has to show his team the way. Ahmed Shehzad might of earned a call-up for the ODI team after a terrific Twenty20 series and will hope his form can continue. The ODIs will give the hosts a calmer atmosphere in which to build an innings, but they have not beaten Pakistan in a one-dayer since 1998, some 26 matches ago, and without their senior batsmen coming to the party, that’s unlikely to change.
Ahmed Shehzad had a brilliant Twenty20 series and despite the lack of quality in the Zimbabwean bowling attack he batted extremely well. Shehzad himself said he was happy with his performances but needs to be consistent to become a regular in this Pakistan team. He has struggled in the past for Pakistan in ODI cricket with the 21 year old having played 24 matches but averaging only 25.91. However, he does have two hundreds to his name in International cricket but he just needs to work on contributing regularly.
