India: The decision to bowl first by MS Dhoni in the first warm up game against Sri Lanka was successful. He has considered the terms of warm up games and allow the team of eleven players to field first so that they can get some estimations how to perform with their bat. The bowlers of India were facing difficulties on the Edgbaston pitch and the captain has also pointed out the pitch was not providing effective assistance to them.
Irfan Pathan was seemed wayward and was not so threatening for the batsmen. The team officials of India would want to make effective batting combinations that are useful against English conditions against Australia before starting to compete in group matches.
On the other hand, the batting of India seems to be more effective and the team officials are satisfied with the performances of their batsmen. Dinesh Karthik was unbeatable with 103 runs, whereas Virat Kohli has also stabilized his performance. Rohit Sharma and Shikar Dhawan were the only players who have not contributed enough for the team and it is expected they would spend quality time in the pavilion. Their fielding was also sluggish against Sri Lanka, another factor where the team is hoping to improve their standards.
Australia: The Australian bowlers have pulled back things against West Indian players. Mitchell Starc has made a great return to the team and finished the match with 4 form 29 runs, dangerous for every players from top to bottom. Clint McKay was also effective after a long time, performed brilliantly with the ball and got 3 wickets in total. Australia would also want to provide some warm up to Xavier Doherty and Adam Voges so that they can adapt the conditions as well.
The real star for Australia would be Shane Watson who batted up to 31st overs from the beginning lifted Australia with amazing 98 runs in 135 balls. He has got great supports from Adam Voges and George Bailey, who were returning to international cricket after a long time. The area of concern for the team is associated with Phil Hughes and David Warner as they have not performed well in the first warm up game.
The captain of Australia Michael Clarke is motivated to play well against India and has confidence over the abilities of his team. There are news from resources that Glenn Maxwell would get a spot in the team for second warm up match to show his capabilities and cement his position in the team. The bowlers are also required to make amendments with their line and length as Indian batsmen are aggressive with the ball and their opponents always need to play intelligently and rationally against them.
